The key to more consistent and better chipping starts with a good fundamental set up. Start by placing your hands lower on the club so your hands are about a 1/2 inch from the bottom of the grip. Next we want to stand with a narrow stance and the ball position lined up towards the back foot. Now lean forward toward the target so most of your weight is now on your front foot, this should help in getting your hands ahead of the ball so the butt end of the club points at your front pocket. We now have built a great base to start our chipping. The chipping motion comes from the shoulders and arms in a pendulum motion similar to putting. The ball should come off the club low and rolling like a putt. Now line up your chip shots like you do your putts and watch them go in the hole! – Chris Sleeper, PGA, Granite Links GC
