Located off of Route 100 in Killington Vermont sits one of the nicest mountain courses that you can play in New England. GMN has everything that you head north for: mountain views on every hole. If you are looking for tight fairways, beautifully manicured greens, breath taking views and the sweet smell of tall pines look no further then Green Mountain National! While waiting to start on the first hole the starter goes through a description of what to do on every hole. If only I could have remembered what he said after the first hole? If you are a great driver of the golf ball you will not be intimidated by this course, but fairway location is of prime importance. You can’t play good golf from off the fairway. It took me 9 holes to leave the driver in the bag and start playing smart position golf. This course demands that!
Being a public course, they also want you and the group behind you to enjoy a round of golf that doesn’t take more than 4 -1/2 hours. They have a unique feature that I have never seen before. On every tee there is a clock with your starting time on it. It should be the same time. If it is later, then your group is behind. What a great idea! Much better than a grumpy Ranger telling you to move it along! Green Mountain National is a course that requires a second round because trust me, the first time you play you’ll have a hard time not looking at the beautiful views on almost every hole. GMC simply has it all!
